The healing properties of the Busot waters were described for centuries, and in 1816 the springs passed from the city of Alicante into private hands, beginning the history of the spa. From 1865 the Count of Casa Rojas developed the ambitious Hotel Miramar \u201cwinter station\u201d around the springs: a grand hotel with a casino, ballroom, chapel, gardens, a navigable pool and sports facilities, whose golden age lasted until around 1930 and which even received a visit from the Spanish royal family. In 1936 the building passed to the State and was converted into a children\u2019s sanatorium, and by the mid-twentieth century it had fallen out of use.
